A Multi-sensory Portrait of F. Fomentarius (2025)
film installation
super8,
projector, 35mm and mid-format film, bioplastic foil
‘A Multisensory Portrait of F. Fomentarius’, explores how film can create affect through multi-sensory responses and haptic visuality.
A specimen of Fomes fomentarius becomes image and chemistry, with its fungal molecules infecting its own skin, creating entanglements between matter, image, and viewer.
35mm and mid-format frames are encased in a pungent fungal bioplastic ‘skin’, infesting air with its stench. A super8 loop displays ‘temporamental’ traces of a chemical solution resisting human control. The work invites the audience to experience non-human presence through scent, feel, texture, and the ghostly artifacts of collaborative material agents.
